Swoon ~ a sense of enchantment and captivation
We are excited to share our first collaboration with Alexia Vogel: a Berlin-based South African artist creating lush landscape paintings and prints that emanate with nostalgia, dreaminess and wanderlust.
thor was established out of a passion for creating wearable art that’s as intricate and joyful as the people who wear it. In this luxurious collaboration, a playful artwork in Vogel’s vivid watercolour combinations are set on an oval bangle creating a piece that feels both classic and exciting and wearable everyday ~ swoon-worthy.
Swoon bangles are a limited edition one-of-a-kind artwork - a fusion of creativity and craftsmanship
Q&A with Alexia and thor
Q: How did the initial idea for this jewellery collaboration come about?
thor: we always wanted to create an everyday stacking bangle that caught your eye
Q: How did you decide which artists to collaborate with in the start of this process?
thor: It was very important to thor that it was a local South African artist as we love local and wanted to showcase local talent. We have always loved Alexia’s watercolours, especially her jungles and palm trees and feel so lucky we got the opportunity to collaborate with another female entrepreneur
Q: Describe the inspiration for Swoon?
AV: The inspiration for Swoon came from one of my favourite paintings that I’ve made, Sticky Fever II, 2019. It’s a large oil painting that evokes an abstract, luscious jungle landscape, a sticky sweltry place. I honed in on the colours and shapes to create the tiniest design which was a really fun challenge. The painting itself is a work that to me is quite immersive and lush and I hoped to create a small glimpse of that warm, sweaty sensation that the artwork evokes in me into a piece of wearable art
Q: Describe Swoon in 3 words?
AV: Luscious, elegant, summery
Q: What does having a special piece of jewellery mean to you?
AV: My engagement ring is made with my birth stone (garnet) and my wedding ring belonged to my husband’s great grandmother. So both pieces are very personal and sentimental to me. I think having jewellery that makes you think of a person, a moment or even a feeling is a really wonderful little reminder to carry with you in your day
